The What We Want crew come back with a new podcast full of fresh footages shooted in Leysin for three days, just before christmas. Follow Gérôme Mathieu (aka Coincoin), Valérian Ducourtil and Christian Weber into their new adventures, with the complicity of our home photographer Germain Ozer. Report and portfolio below !The three days told by the man behind the lens, Germain Ozer :
Tuesday morning, it's snowing and we took the decision to buy a skipass to try our luck into the pow, we'll reach the trees in the forest if the meteo get bad. The firsts turns are pure hapiness and takes us to the first spot, a step down full of snow, the trees around have became pyramids of powder, just beautiful ! The spot needs a bit of shaping and our two riders are already working on it. Only few minutes later, the first tries are attempted. The session goes on and Coincoin close it with a fat 180 back melon yet a little over shooted. It's getting dark and we go and seek for other spots we can shoot the next day. In the evening, Christian Weber and the photographer Vanessa Andrieux join us.
Apart from the three days off that we took for the weekend, wednesday is the sixth foggy day in a row since the begining of our adventure. A simple look to the sky is enough to realize that it won't change... Enthusiasm from the first snow leave place for inpatience. Is it too much to ask for one sunny day ? Once again, a street spot seems to be the best alternative. Serge is at home and took us to see a wallride wich, even if it's not very high, ends on a gap. We grab our shovels and start working hard.
Coincoin open the spot, get on the wall and land after the gap. The spot works well and there is plenty of stuff to do. After that it's Valérian's turn and then Christian. A few attempts later the guys starts doing good on the wall and think about some serious tricks. For Coincoin it will be fs wallride bs 270 out that he lands several time wich allows the filmer to shoot from different angles. It's a bit harder for Valérian and his fs wall ride to 3-6 out, it seems like he will never land it. He got style but every time he fall because of his tail that bend and finally break under his weight. A rocker is not the best weapon for this spot ! Finally he took Coincoin's board and without moving the settings he succeed... cheered by the workers who were watching the show. Christian Weber, is not keen on the wall and prefer ending the day with a fs 180 over a barrier and a branch just before we got back at Serge's to warm us.
The next day was initially dedicated to shape a road gap we found on the first day. But once again the elements are against us... and it's not the snow but the rain that begins to fall. We decide to forget about the road gap and go somewhere else. We found a last spot wich was a rail with a a gap at the end. The spot got potential but the rain and the cold ruined the session and the only good tricks were a fs 50-50 fs 180 out from Valérian and a nosepress nollie out from Christian.
We split up the next day, for everyone it's now direction home to spend the holidays with the family. My adventure with What We Want ends up here, and I'm happy to have shared the beginnings of this new production company. I can only thank them and wish them a good winter.
